Table Mountain Field Trip
Karl Lillquist (CWU Geography)
Sunday, June 22, 2008. Noon to 6:00 pm.

Meet at CWU's Hebeler Hall to car pool.

Here's a brief description from Karl: Table Mountain is a landscape north of Ellensburg in the Wenatchee Range. The table-like form resulting in its name originated from the deposition of Columbia River Basalts and subsequent folding. We will explore the basalts and folding as well as stream piracy, talus deposited by rockfall, massive landslides, nivation (i.e, snow-made hollows), inactive rock glaciers, and the possibility of past glaciation, all in Eastside Forest and Subalpine settings.

Earth Day Event - April 20, 2008
Image:
The Earth Day event was held at Helen McCabe State Park, where KEEN has plans to build a Nature Center.  With the help from our wonderful volunteers and community members 160 Ponderosa pine trees (generously donated by North Yakima Conservation District) were planted and several bags of trash were removed from the park.  A special guest, Jay Carmony with the Washington Conservation Corps, came out to show us how to plant the pine trees for optimal survival.  There were also several groups that set up booths to teach us about projects that they are working on to keep Kittitas county a beautiful place to live and visit.  The Biology Club from Central Washington University showed up with some fresh baked goods and home grown native shrubs for people to take home for their yards.

A BIG THANKS TO ALL THAT HELPED MAKE THIS A WONDERFUL EARTH DAY
